[PConline News] A start-up company called Empatia wants to make it easier for people with epilepsy to detect when seizures are occurring and to notify others when they need help. Recently, the company has tailored a new wristband for patients with epilepsy, which is expected to detect seizures and alert the family when the patient is in severe pain and critical situations.
Empatica manufactures wearable devices that can be used to measure the correlation between physiological signals and emotions. It hopes to raise $100,000 in a device called Embrace that was developed for the IndieGoGo website in mid-November. After a day of donation collection, the company reached this goal, and afterwards it raised an additional 50,000 US dollars.
The wristband, called Embrace, is scheduled to be available in the summer of next year and is priced at $199. The design of this wristband is more fashionable, not just for health: A video released by the company shows a wide and thin wristband that wraps around the arm like a clanging bracelet.
